Rains alter HS baseball schedules

Unprecedented rains for the past several days have put a damper on high school baseball in the area.
However, some games were completed before the deluge began, including a game between Gainesville and Dora at Hammons Field in Springfield, home of the Springfield Cardinals, a double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
In that game, the state-ranked Falcons beat the Bulldogs by a score of 16-7.
Dora jumped out to an early lead, putting up 4 runs in the first and added another 4 in the second. Gainesville got on the boards in the second, putting up 2 runs and adding another pair in the third. But a big fourth inning for the Falcons saw them add another 5 runs before tacking on another pair of runs in the sixth to coast to a win over their intra-county rivals.
Both teams hit the ball well in the first four innings, but Dora pulled away late in the contest.
Justin VonAllmen led the Falcons with 4 hits and a home run. Kase Wilson, Dallas DeWeese and Austin Thompson each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
The two teams, after enjoying each other's company in Springfield, met again in the first round of the Seymour Tournament the following day on April 20.
The Falcons moved to 13-0 on the year, beating Gainesville for the second day in a row, 9-3 in spite of a home run by Gainesville's Austin Thompson.
The Falcons then blanked tournament-host Seymour 10-0.
Ranked fourth in the state last week, Dora improves to 14-0. The Falcons have outscored their opponents 184 to 27.
Gainesville also defeated Seymour in their own tournament, beating the Tigers 10-6. Austin Thompson and Will Johnson each went 3 for 4 in the contest to lead the Bulldogs.

Lutie
The Lutie Indians, meanwhile, dropped a contest to Galena on April 19, 7-1.

Bakersfield
The Lions slipped to 5-5 with a loss last week to Norwood. The Pirates beat Bakersfield 4-1. Taylor Bales, Zack McCormack and Willy Simpson each had one hit for the Lions.

Upcoming games
The Gainesville Bulldogs were scheduled to play at 4:30 Monday at Conway. Dora will host Plato Monday in a 4:30 p.m. game while Bakersfield will host Bradleyville at 4:30 p.m., and Lutie plays host to Cabool on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
