Bobby ‘Luke’ Johnson, 83

A memorial service for Bobby Lee “Luke” Johnson, 83, of Springfield, will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville. Mr. Johnson died May 16 in Springfield.

He was born Sept. 5, 1935, in Theodosia, the son of Frank A. and Jessie Faye Mahan Johnson.  

He grew up working in the family’s business, Johnson Brothers’ Store. He graduated from Gaines-ville High School in 1953 and served in the Army until he was honorably discharged in 1963. He then moved to Springfield, where he became a suit salesman for many years and then worked in the stock market until his retirement. 

He enjoyed telling old stories and visiting with his many friends, playing pool, meeting new people and discovering their heritage, deer hunting and driving the backroads of Ozark County. 

He cared for his parents until they preceded him in death. He was a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephew. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Frances Jenkins Johnson of Gainesville;  nieces Teresa Johnson Hicks and husband Dan, and Lisa Johnson Monkres; nephew Eric Johnson and friend Linda Bybee; a great-nephew, Matthew Johnson Hicks; great-nieces Caroline Cotner and husband Andy, and Marissa Monkres, all of Springfield; and a great-great-nephew, August “Gus” Cotner.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private burial will be held at Lutie Cemetery in Theodosia. Memorial contributions may be made to Lutie Cemetery.
