Byron Rubert Lewis, 103

A memorial service for Byron Rubert Lewis, 103, of West Plains, formerly of Dora, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Friends and relatives are asked to bring stories to share in celebration of Mr. Lewis’ life. He died peacefully on June 26 in West Plains.
He was born June 13, 1915, the son of Edward Eugene Lewis and Audra Pearl Luna Lewis. He was the oldest and last surviving of five brothers: Byron, Walton, Donald, Doyle and Ewell.
On Jan. 25, 1936, he married Edna Cecile Adams. They were devoted Jehovah’s Witnesses and were married 69 years before her death on Jan. 31, 2005.
The Lewises had three children – Leila Marie, Robert Eugene and Jerry Lee. Robert died as an infant, and Jerry died in 2009.
Mr. Lewis had many occupations but worked as a mechanic in the trucking industry most of his life, retiring in 1977 to Dora. He enjoyed watching Cardinals baseball and being outdoors fishing, hunting and gardening.
His family also includes four grandsons, three granddaughters, great-grandchildren and other relatives and dear friends.
Following his wishes, his remains will be interred next to his wife at Sweeton Pond Cemetery.
