Calla Rene Mathy, 99

Funeral services for Calla Rene Mathy, 99, of Gainesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Dale Roberts officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Mathy died July 6 at Gainesville Health Care Center in Gainesville, surrounded by family members who knew she was at peace with God and ready for her heavenly home.

She was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, the daughter of Charlie and Maude Stephens Carter. Her father was a sharecropper and farmer.

She graduated in 1938 from West Platte High School in Weston, Missouri, where the large Carter family had relocated from Kentucky. She told friends and relatives that growing up and knowing hard work created her toughness. She loved fishing, gardening, listening to gospel music and spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Mathy was one of the oldest members and an officer in Weston’s American Legion Post.

She retired from the Thompson Hayward Chemical Co. in the late 1980s. She also demonstrated food at local stores while living in Mesa, Arizona.

She overcame many trials and struggles in her life, always tackling hard times with a smile while letting all know everything was possible with the Lord by her side. When asked how she was feeling, her comment was, “I am perfect” while pointing to the sky. It was her signature pose. She left behind many memories and much laughter.

She is survived by one sister, Jeri Orr and husband Orville of Granada Hills, California; six grandchildren, Kim Sullivan and husband Rocky of Gainesville, Karla Eslinger and husband David of Wasola, Jeff Lamar of Gainesville, Jamie Dye and husband Bob of Lakeside, Arizona, April Myler of Phoenix, Arizona, and Joni Lindsey of Phoenix, Arizona; 12 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; daughter Raydene Leser; son Douglas Lindsey; brothers Brooks Carter, Estil Carter and Bill Carter; and sister Gertrude Siler.

Burial will be in the Lutie Cemetery in Theodosia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutie Cemetery.

Arrangements by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
