Cecelia E. ‘Beth’ Nicholson, 83

A memorial visitation for Cecelia Elizabeth “Beth” Nicholson, 83, of Springfield, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2020, in the Tecumseh Community Build-ing at the Tecumseh Volunteer Fire Department on Highway 160 in Tecumseh. Mrs. Nicholson died Dec. 22, 2019 in Springfield from complications of a stroke.

She was born March 25, 1936, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Beatrice and Nicholson. She was raised on the family farm in Great Bend. She earned her master’s degree in sociology and psychology at Kansas State University and then taught at several different universities, including in Guam, all while raising her three children.

In 1972, she moved to Missouri with her second husband and remained there until their divorce in 1985. She then moved to Washington, where she worked for the school district in Port Townsend. After her retirement, she returned to Tecumseh.

She lived life with an attitude of fearless adventure. In her life, she was a farmhand, she hunted and fished, snow-skied, scuba-dived, had her pilot’s license and traveled the world. It made for a wonderful life of adventure for children.

She lived life with confidence and was never afraid to speak her mind, but she would always help when the need arose. She enjoyed her life on her farm in Tecumseh and always spoke well of her neighbors and acquaintances. The family expresses thanks to them their help, friendship and patience over the years.
She is survived by daughters Susan Busch and husband Ralph of Kirkland, Washington, and Cecelia Griffith and husband Randy of Lees Summit; her son Steve McDonald and wife Tracy of Nixa; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandmother; and one brother, Bill Nicholson.

She preceded in death by her parents; sister Joyce Frerking.
