Clyde Douglas Shewsbury, 62

A memorial service for Clyde Douglas “Doug” Shrewsbury, 62, of Theodosia will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at Thornfield House of Prayer. A potluck lunch will be shared afterward. Mr. Shrewsbury died Oct. 3 at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains. 

He was born Oct. 13, 1954, in Princeton, West Virginia, the son of Clyde D. and Francis Hunter Shrewsbury. He grew up in Wyoming County, West Virginia, and attended school in Mullens, West Virginia. As an adult, he moved near Shingle Holler, North Carolina, and volunteered as a firefighter and first responder, earning the nickname Rerun.

Later, he moved to Ozark County, where he again served the public as a firefighter and first responder with the Theodosia Area Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a long-haul tractor-trailer driver for about 30 years before becoming disabled. He worked briefly with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He transported children for local schools, ran a mowing business, was an honorary member of AMVETS Post #154 and volunteered at VFW Post #5366. 

He loved to hunt, golf, fish, cook and entertain friends and family with stories and lots of jokes. He attended Thornfield House of Prayer and loved his church family. He impacted hundreds of people and will be sorely missed.

Survivors in Missouri include his wife, Vickie Shrewsbury; his stepdaughter Heather Peabody and husband Henry; stepson Brian Williamson; two brothers-in-law and their families; two sisters-in-law and their families; special friends Ryan and Amber Feltz; and six grandchildren. In North Carolina, his survivors include stepson Lee Pearson; stepdaughter Holly Morgan; sisters Opal VanDyke and husband Jeff, Edna Shrewsbury and husband John; brother Patrick Shrewsbury and wife Lisa; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Harvey Hunter; his stepdaughter Christina Pearson; niece Cathryn Shrewsbury; an infant step-granddaughter; parents-in-law Verl and Adele Williamson; step-daughter-in-law Erika West; and several aunts and uncles.
