Darrell Owens, 73

Darrell Gene Owens, 73, of Gainesville, died Feb. 25, 2020, at his residence. No local services are planned at this time.

He was born Sept. 16, 1946, in Salem, Indiana, the son of Lester and Mildred Ruth Hardin Owens.

Mr. Owens worked for many years in construction as a heavy equipment operator, but his love was farming. He would sometimes take off work from his day job just so he could work even harder around the farm. It was his passion, and he loved doing it. 

On May 25, 1984, he married Mabel Roberts. The couple continued living on their farm in Willow Springs until the end of 2017, when they moved to Gainesville to be closer to family. 

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
