Dillard Martin, 71

Funeral services for Dillard Martin, 71, of Creedmoor, North Carolina, were held Dec. 21, 2019, at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor, North Carolina, with the Rev. Eddie Nutt and Mr. Martin’s nephew, Lt. Col. Wade Reaves, officiating.  Mr. Martin died Dec. 18 at the VA Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.
He was born Sept. 23, 1948, in Howell County, the son of Tan William Martin and his wife Bertha Trail of Dora. He attended the School of the Ozarks in Point Lookout and was a graduate of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. He was an Army veteran and a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. A longtime resident of Granville County, North Carolina, he retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Butner, North Carolina.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include Dorothy Spurling, his wife of 27 years; three sisters, Inez Martin of Springfield, LoNez Simmons and husband Bob of Pleasant Hope, and Ella Mae Becker and husband Bill of Dover, Arkansas; two brothers; Dick Martin and wife Becky of Springfield, Rick Martin and wife Judy of Holts Summit; and several nieces and nephews, including .
He was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Anderson.
Burial was at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
