Elmer Dee ‘Joe’ Anderson II

A memorial service for Elmer Dee “Joe” Anderson II, 76, of Gainesville, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Highway 160 west of Gainesville. Mr. Anderson died June 18 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Dec. 11, 1942, the son of Capt. Elmer “Andy” Anderson, USN, and MaryEva Olds Anderson.

He retired in 2009 from Arcelor Mittal Steel as an engineer and made his home on a farm near Gainesville. As a Jehovah’s Witness, Mr. Anderson was welcomed into the Gainesville congregation. He enjoyed discussing his Bible-based hope with his friends and neighbors. One of his favorite things to do was to sit on his front porch and listen to the sounds of his country home. He will be missed and forever loved.

He is survived by his wife, Tina R. Anderson of Gainesville; daughters Wendy Anderson-Lopez and husband Lawrence of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Christie Anderson and fiance’ Steve Smith of Austin, Texas, and Cora Anderson of Chicago, Illinois; five grandchildren; nephew Dan Mangan of Boulder, Colorado; niece Lt. Cmdr. Kathryn Mangan Maher, MD, USN, and husband Patrick of Gig Harbor, Washington; and two grand nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Charlotte Mangan.
