Gayle Pauline Murrill, 85

Funeral services for Gayle Pauline Murrill, 85, of Ava, formerly of Thornfield, were held April 13, 2019, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava with Pastors Leon Turner and David Mahan officiating. Mrs. Murrill died April 10 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield with her children by her side.

She was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Wasola, the daughter of Melvis and Lucy Cates Naugle. She spent her childhood and youth in the Romance and Noble area.

She married Roy Murrill and moved to a farm in Thornfield, where they raised their kids.

Mrs. Murrill loved to cook and was known for her chicken and dumplings and her wonderful pies. 

In 1962 she joined the Rawlings Sporting Goods Factory in Ava, working there as an inspector for 27 years before retiring. The Murrills loved to go to music parties, where Mr. Murrill picked the guitar and Mrs. Murrill jig danced. She spent the last years of her life in Ava, where she enjoyed spending time with kids and grandkids and playing countless games of rummy.

Mrs. Murrill was a Christian and a member of the Thornfield Southern Baptist Church. She loved her church family dearly. Most of all, her joy was being with her husband Roy and all her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Gaylene Gregory and husband Paul of Ozark;  two sons, Calvin Murrill and wife Gloria of Springfield, and Dallas Murrill and wife Elaine of Ava; stepson Dan Murrill and wife Barbara of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Wayne, Becky, Darin, Jill and Coby; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Naugle and wife Willa of Springfield; one sister, Faye Willbanks of Springfield; and many other relatives and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy, who died in 2017; a grandson, Robert “Bob” Murrill; two sisters and one brother.

Burial was in the Thornfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Thornfield Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at clinkingbeardfuneralhome.com.
