Joan Mary Huffine, 94
Joan Huffine, 94, of Gainesville, died June 25, 2019, at the Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Thayer. No local services are planned.
She was born July 3, 1924, in Rushden, England, the daughter of Frank and Mary Elizabeth Garret Taylor. Her family moved to the United States before Joan’s second birthday, settling in Long Beach, California. She grew up there and graduated high school from Long Beach Polytechnic.
In January 1944, she married Vernon Huffine. Later, she went back to junior college before working as a medical office assistant for many years. She was an artist, specializing in oils and stained glass, but also loved all sorts of artwork. She enjoyed everything from sewing to floral décor to doing hair.
She and her husband moved to the Ozarks in 1990 and enjoyed their retirement years together. Mr. Huffine died in July 2012.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Huffine of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; her daughter, Jan Madden and husband John of Gainesville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
