Lorna Voss, 88

Lorna Kohn Voss, 88, of Desloge, Missouri, died June 8, 2020, at her home. A family memorial service was held.

She was born June 19, 1931, in Bismarck, Missouri, the daughter of Lorn and Marjorie Huff Kohn. After high school graduation, she attended what is now Mineral Area College in Park Hills and then transferred to Murray State University in Kentucky, majoring in music and English. She eventually returned to Missouri to finish her degree at Washington University. 

Music was Mrs. Voss’ passion. Her career as a vocal music teacher spanned more than two decades in St. Francois County in southeast Missouri. She is remembered by countless students.

She loved spending time with her family, and they loved her. She always made sure her children and grandchildren felt loved on their birthday by calling early in the morning and singing to them, always on pitch. Along with a check in their birthday card, she always included a crisp $1 bill that, the family joked, she secretly printed in her basement.  

Survivors include her three children, Laurie Brickey and husband Jack of St. Louis, Robert Kohn Voss and wife Cheri of Pontiac and Elizabeth Voss Dittmer of St. Louis; her brother, Dixie Kohn and wife Suzanne of Springfield; six grandchildren, Ian Brickey, Fiona Brickey, Robert Rice Voss, Zachary Kohn Voss, Braden Lang Voss and wife Sara, and Brendan Dittmer; two nephews, Christian Kohn and Ethan Kohn and wife Shannon. 

She was preceded in death by Bob, her husband of 65 years, who died in February.
