Phyllis Turner, 66

A memorial service Phyllis Turner, 66, of Gainesville was held Oct. 14, 2019, at the Thornfield Chapel with Bruce DeWeese officiating. Mrs. Turner died Oct. 10. 

She was born Oct. 9, 1953, in Thornfield, the daughter of Hervil and Virginia Gaulding. After graduating from Gainesville High School in 1971, she moved to Kansas City, Kansas, and worked in administrative jobs, spending most of her years at Hallmark Corporation. In 2004, she married her childhood friend, Johnnie Turner, and moved back to Gainesville, where she and her husband have owned the Antler Motel for several years. Mrs. Turner was serving as Ozark County treasurer at the time of her death. 

She loved her family well and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She was known for her strength and wisdom.

She is survived by her husband, John; her children Emily Engle of Abilene, Kansas, and Luke Marvine of Mission Hills, Kansas; her husband’s three children; her brother, H.K. Gaulding; her sister, Faye Anglin; and their nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and her sister, Evangeline.

Burial was in the Thornfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thornfield Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home.
