Thomas Ray Mahan, 66

Thomas Ray Mahan, 66, of Springfield, died June 1, 2020, in Springfield. A private family service will be held at a later time.

He was born Feb. 2, 1954, in Gainesville, the son of Ralph and Dohna Mahan. He completed his elementary education in the one-room Upper Brixey school near his rural home and attended church at nearby Smith Chapel. On Feb. 11, 1972, in Springfield, during his senior year in high school, he married Vivian Cottom. He graduated a few months later from Gainesville High School with the class of 1972. 

After high school, he moved to Springfield to do auto body work and auto painting. 

The Mahans lived in Springfield 48 years, working and raising their family. 

Mr. Mahan always liked to fish and hunt. He and his son, Daniel, enjoyed spending time in the Mahans’ cabin in Ozark County. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandson beyond measure and enjoyed doting on them.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian; his daughter, Alicia Bertram of Republic, and his son, Daniel Mahan of Port Oranage, Florida; one brother, Jerald Mahan of Brixey; one sister, Phyllis Mullins and husband Greg of Blue Spring; seven grandchildren, Cyrus, Lia and Gavin Mahan, Branden Gonsalez, Chloe Brewer and Lucy and Patrick Bertram; and one great-grandson, Seth Brewer. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nettie Mae Hudson; and two brothers, Phillip Lee Mahan and Jimmy Mahan.
