Virginia Lowery, 88

Virginia Lowery, 88

Funeral services for Virginia Love McWilliams Lowery, 88, of Theodosia, were  held Oct. 2, 2018, at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson, Mississippi. No local services are planned at this time. Mrs. Lowery died Sept. 26 in Ava.

She was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Jackson, the daughter and first child of James Dewit and Julia Odele Love McWilliams.

Her growing-up years were all spent in the Jackson area, where she graduated from Clinton High School, married Jerry David Lowery, her husband of 68 years, and mothered two children, Jerry David Jr. and Rebecca Patrice. During this growing-up period she was active in school and church programs and enjoyed vacation travel, particularly to the Southwest. As the children matured, she sometimes worked in temporary government positions and wound up this stage of her life as the quasi office manager for a local physician.

The maturing period of her life was spent in the Bourbonnaise, Illinois, area, where she was active in the Christian Women’s Club and a volunteer in the Riverside Hospital Auxiliary.

The retirement period of her life was spent in the Theodosia area enjoying the quiet beauty of the Ozarks, the friendliness of its people and the unique cultural activities of the area. As health permitted, she was true to her giving nature and was active in the ministries of her church. Meals for the homebound were of particular concern to her.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Lowery; her daughter, Rebecca; her son, David and his wife Judy Johnston; three grandchildren, Adam Lowery, Deanna Chyn and husband Eric, Jeffrey Lowery and wife Olivia; and four great-grandchildren, Malone, Jackson, Haiden and Bennett; a sister, Sylvia Rhea Carty; and a brother, James D. McWilliams Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Earl McWilliams.

Burial will be in the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery.

Local arrangements by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville.
