Wendell M. Jones, 78

A casual, come-and-go gathering to celebrate the life of Wendell M. Jones, 78, of Kissee Mills, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at the Ozark home of his daughter, April Phillips. (Call 417-546-1508 for directions.) Mr. Jones died Oct. 9 at Cox Hospital in Branson after a short illness.

He was born March 30, 1939, in Lutie, the son of Paul and Opal Robirds Jones. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1956. On Jan. 23, 1959, in Almartha, he married Virginia Oxley. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Mines in Rolla in 1964 and became a civil engineer.

He worked for City Utilities in Springfield for several years and then had his own business, Jones Engineering. He enjoyed living in the country, working and spending time with his animals, drawing on AutoCAD and playing the electric bass guitar. For many years he played music with or for family members and more recently at the VFW or the nursing home.

Survivors include his daughters, Malinda Jones of Kissee Mills and April Phillips and husband Robert of Ozark; his brother, Kendall Jones and wife Sylvia of Rockaway Beach; his grandchildren: Jackie, Michael, Paul, Jacob and Andrew; several great-grandchildren; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, who died in 2010; his son, Brian, who died in 2000; and his brother, Darrell Jones, who died in 2001.

Mr. Jones decided years ago to donate his body to science. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or to lung cancer research or as nonperishable food items brought to the celebration of life gathering.
