William Henry Wood, 91

Funeral services for William Henry Wood, 91, of Marshfield, formerly of Ozark County, were held April 9, 2019, at Smith Chapel church of Christ with Clayton King officiating. Mr. Wood died April 5 in Marshfield after a long battle with heart disease. 

He was born Jan. 30, 1928, near Gainesville, the son of Maurice and Ada Wood. On April 7, 1950, he married Velda Rene Newton, and they lived near Gainesville for 53 years. 

Mr. Wood served in the Army and was stationed in Korea. He lived in the Pine Creek area near Gainesville for most of his life before moving to Marshfield in 2016 to be near his family. He taught school in Ozark County for 42 years before retiring. He also coached baseball and basketball for many years.
He was a long-time member of the Smith Chapel church of Christ and the Marshfield church of Christ; he loved his Lord and his spiritual family. He also loved hunting and fishing, carpentry and woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Fisher and husband Paul of Marshfield; two grandchildren, Jennifer King and husband Jarrod and Jeff Fisher, all of Marshfield; four great-grandchildren, Miley Fisher, Jonah King, Julianne King and Jensen King, all of Marshfield; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Bradley of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Karen Wood of Kansas City; one brother-in-law, Alfred Newton of Gainesville; four nieces, Tammy Mitchell and husband Perry, Tina Killian and husband Larry, Allison Lawson and husband Randall, and Heather Ford and husband James; three nephews, Aaron Newton, Reathel Bean and wife Holly, and Jim Wood and wife Maryann; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Jody; three brothers and two sisters.

Burial with full military honors in Smith Chapel Cemetery followed the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Fair Haven Children’s Home, 3132 N. Fair Haven Loop, Strafford, MO 65757, or to the Smith Chapel Cemetery Fund.
