Ozark County schools plan Veterans Day programs

These Ozark County schools are planning programs this week to honor area veterans in observance of the Nov. 11 Veterans Day holiday, which falls on a Sunday this year and will be observed as a state and federal holiday on Monday, Nov. 12.

Bakersfield School will host a Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Jerry Taylor Gymnasium at Bakersfield High School. Superintendent Amy Britt says all area veterans are invited to attend.

Dora School’s annual Veterans Day celebration will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the school gymnasium. Lunch for all veterans and their spouse or guest will be served in the FEMA building following the ceremony.

Gainesville School will hold a Veterans Day assembly at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the elementary school gymnasium.

Lutie School will host a Veterans Day brunch at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the school. Bill Henry and Karla Eslinger will be the guest speakers; the program will also include student music and essays. The menu will include scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, patriotic fruit salad and cinnamon rolls. All area veterans are invited, but those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by calling the school at 273-4150. (This is a correction from last week’s Times, when the wrong RSVP phone number was given.)
