Gainesville Schools to offer free breakfast to all students.

Gainesville Schools next week expect to start implementing new meal programs, “Breakfast in the classroom” and “Grab and Go,” to provide students with the opportunity to eat a well-balanced, nutritious breakfast every day at no charge.

Elementary students will have their breakfast delivered to their classrooms, and junior high and high school students can pick up the “Grab and Go” breakfast at the cafeteria kitchen.

Gainesville superintendent Jeffrey Hyatt said the breakfast option will be served beginning Oct. 23 at 7:45 a.m. at the elementary school and 7:40 in the high school cafeteria. He encouraged parents and guardians to get their students to school on time so they can “start their learning day with a free breakfast.”

Hyatt said students will be offered hot or cold breakfast items that fit the age-appropriate guidelines established by the USDA, with different menu options available each day. Milk and a 1-cup portion of fruit will also be offered with each breakfast.
