Jasper James, Starr Myers top elementary competitors at Norwood archery tourney

Gainesville Elementary School fourth graders Jasper James and Starr Myers both took first place in the elementary division of the Pirate State Qualifying Tournament Saturday, Jan. 6, at Norwood. Jasper, who placed second in an archery competition at Skyline and first at another competition at Norwood,  scored a 231. Starr scored a 203, which placed her first out of 11 girls. The highest score possible is 300.
Morgan Strain was the high scorer of the Gainesville archers with 263, earning a ranking of ninth out of 37 archers. Abbey Freeman was the high scorer for the Gainesville girls with 247; Maverick Bushner had a score of 244 and David Connell had a score of 242.
Other Gainesville archers participating were Daniel Dickey, Colton Lawson, Kailyn Corbin, Keegan Corbin, Elijah Howard, Breaanna Rowland, Riley Lyons, Amber Bigson, Alivia Strain, Victoria James and Cheyenne Wachtel.
Other schools participating were Lebanon, Manes, Mountain Grove, Norwood, Skyline and Willard.
Gainesville’s archery team, coached by Greg Lowder and Melinda Peirce,  will host its first archery tournament on Saturday, Feb. 10. The public is invited to attend.
