Ozark County track athletes headed to state


Gainesville’s Nate Richer and Maliki Sherry advance to state Defending state champion pole vaulter Nate Richer, a senior at Gainesville High School, took first place in the Class 2 Sectional 3 to earn the chance to defend his title at the Missouri state track meet being held Friday and Saturday, May 20-21, in Jefferson City. Maliki Sherry, a junior at GHS, also advanced to the state level after placing fourth in high jump.

Three Bakersfield relay teams advance to state In school history, Bakersfield has never had a relay team make it to state. This year, the school has three teams headed to the Class 1 state track meet in Jefferson City this weekend. The boys 4x100 team took third place at the Class 1 Sectional 4 meet held at Point Lookout on Saturday, May 14. The boys 4x200 took second place, and the girls 4x200 team placed fourth. “I’m so proud of all these kids and everything they’ve accomplished this season!” said BHS coach Jessica Batterton. Sister and brother are sectional champions Dora sibling duo Autumn Nold, left, and Cade Nold are both sectional champions after the Class 1 Sectional 4 meet held at Point Lookout Saturday, May 14. Autumn, a junior, took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.41. She also placed third in the 100-meter dash and fourth win the 200-meter dash. Cade, a freshman, took first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.20. Both runners advance to the state meet being held in Jefferson City this weekend. The Dora track and field team is coached by their mother, Sheree Nold.
