A massive amount of dirt is being moved on the old airport property, now owned by Gainesville School, in preparation for the new baseball/softball complex that is in the works across from the high school. School officials say all of the dirt work and equipment is being furnished by volunteers who have offered their time and equipment, saving the school about $3,000 per day during this stage of construction. New ball fields, concession area and an outdoor classroom is planned on the property. Superintendent Justin Gilmore told the Times that so far these people and businesses have supported the project with in-kind work: Randy Donley donated the use of a dozer, Stan Pellham is serving as the operator, Stan and Janet Taber donated their grader to be used, and Luke Cooley, the GHS bus mechanic, has been operating it. Prior to all the dirt work being done, Marty Morrison brought his tractor and roller up, and his son Kannon brought a drone and sprayed the area where the sports complex will be built. Any other community members who would like to offer their services free to the project can call Gilmore at 417-679-4200 to discuss details.
