GHS takes third at Kosh volleyball tourney

The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs traveled to Koshkonong to compete in the Lady Jays Invitational Tournament Saturday, Aug. 30 and brought home the third-place trophy. Couch took first and Blue Eye took second in the pool play tournament. GHS defeated Niangua (25-10, 25-12) and split sets to Koshkonong (25-19, 24-26) in the opening match ups. The Lady Bulldogs advanced to bracket play and were defeated by Couch (13-25, 5-25), but bounced back to defeat Kosh (25-20, 26-24) in the third-place game. Gainesville’s Addie Alms and Dora’s Montgomery Mitchell were named to the all-tournament team. The Lady Bulldogs opened their season on Thursday, Aug. 28 with a home-court victory over Mansfield with Gainesville taking the win in three of four sets (25-18, 24-26, 25-11, 25-18). Sophomore Rylee Kowerduck was credited with 17 digs; junior Addie Alms had 14 kills and sophomore Allie Garrison had 8. Freshman Avery Gaulding racked up six service aces and sophomore setter Baylor Hewett had 22 assists.
