Lady Lions win; Homecoming is Friday

The Bakersfield Lady Lions put the brakes on an Alton comeback Monday night at Bakersfield, beating the Lady Comets 59-52 and moving to 2-1 on the year.

Sam Kuk topped the Lady Lions' scoring brigade with 23 points, followed by Betsy Minkler, who had 15. Mikayla Durham led the team in rebounding with 7 while Sarah Donahue netted 8 points and grabbed 6 boards.

In JV action, Alton cruised to a 40-22 victory. Liz French led Bakersfield with 8 points. Bakersfield's JV squad is now 1-1 on the year.

Bakersfield teams will play Thursday at Chadwick with the JV boys tipping off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity girls and then the varsity boys.

Bakersfield will host Bradleyville Friday at the Lions' homecoming. The JV Lions start the action at 5 p.m. The presentation of the homecoming court follows that game.  The varsity boys will continue the action following the homecoming celebration with the junior varsity and varsity girls' games rounding out the night.
