Local Decoration Day announcements
Many cemeteries this weekend will be hosting Memorial Day gatherings and dinners similar to this one at Baptist Hill Cemetery, near Bakersfield, in 1971. The photo, from the collection of Jim C. Swain, shows Lena Swain Perkins and Iola Swain in the foreground. When Micheal Mahan posted the photo on the Bakersfield Missouri Historical Society Facebook page, several people posted reminiscences of the annual gathering. Janet Taber, whose Civil War veteran ancestor is buried there, described the cemetery as “a particularly serene, beautiful place. You can go there when no one else is around and almost hear distant echoes from events such as this one.” This year’s annual gathering at Baptist Hill Cemetery is set for Sunday, May 30.
Bakersfield Cemetery sets annual meeting for Sunday, May 30
The annual Bakersfield Cemetery meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 30. The gathering will include a business meeting, brief memorial and the selection of new board members. Anyone who has an interest in the cemetery is asked to come.

Baptist Hill Cemetery decoration is May 30
The pavilion at Baptist Hill Cemetery will be available for gathering and visiting on Sunday, May 30, and board secretary-treasurer Gerald Roberts will be there from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day to accept donations for the cemetery.
Donations may also be deposited to the Baptist Hill Cemetery fund at any branch of Century Bank of the Ozarks, or mailed to the bank at P.O. Box 68, Gainesville, MO 65655.

Decoration is May 30 at Center Point Cemetery
Decoration at Center Point Cemetery will be held May 30. A business meeting will be held at noon with a potluck dinner to follow.

A Decoration Day lunch and the annual business meeting at Loftis Cemetery are set for noon Sunday, May 30.

Memorial Day service at Lutie Cemetery set for May 31
The annual Memorial Day service at Lutie Cemetery will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 31, with Melinda Mullins singing gospel songs. The service will be held in the True Hope Church at the cemetery.
The business meeting will begin at 11 a.m., and a basket dinner will follow at noon in the pavilion.
