The Ozark County Sherriff's office collected 45 pounds of unwanted or expired prescription medications Saturday during its pill take-back day with collection points at the Theodosia and Gainesville city halls.
The project was part of a nationwide pill take-back sponsored by the federal Drug Enforcement Administraiton. Reed said a DEA representative is transporting the collected drugs to Eunice, where the South Central Solid Waste Management facility is authorized to incinerate them.
"I'm very pleased with the turnout and with the amount of drugs we collected," said chief deputy Darrin Reed.
