Bakersfield Lady Lions take second at Big Springs Conference Tournament

The Lady Lions traveled to Summersville last week to compete in the Big Springs Conference Tournament where they took second place.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, they beat Van Buren 43-39 in the first round. They were led by Callie Smith with 16 points, followed by Keely Stevens with 8. Others scoring for Bakersfield were Lily Williams 5, Hadley Stevens with 4, Madison Melvin and Aubrey Luna with 3 each and Sadie Davidson and Carrleigh Green with 2 each. 

They returned on Thursday, Jan. 30 for semifinal action with the Dora Lady Falcons and won Dora 59-37. 

Callie Smith scored 19 points in the game, followed by Sadie Davidson with 12, Keely Stevens with 10, Madison Melvin 9, Carrleigh Green 4, Lily Williams 3 and Alyssa Gailey 2.

Saturday, Feb. 2, the Lady Lions took on the Alton Comets team in the championship game and lost 55-32.

Players scoring for Bakersfield were Lily Williams 7, Sadie Davidson 6, Keely Stevens, Callie Smith and Madison Melvin with 5 each and Aubrey Luna with 4.

Senior Callie Smith was named Big Springs Conference Player of the Year.

The Lady Lions record now stands at 11-5. Bakersfield will host Couch Friday. Feb. 7 for Homecomecoming.
