Bakersfield Lions get big win on senior night over Van Buren
The Bakersfield boys’ basketball team celebrated senior night Monday with a big win over Van Buren, 52-40.
Ethan Cotter led in scoring for the Lions with 17, followed by Jake Freiman with 16, mason Bean and Trace luna with 8 each, Aidan Tiller with 2 and Connor Jones with 1.
In other recent action, the Lions won against Couch, but lost to Summersville.
On Friday night, the Lions won against Couch, 79-58.
The Lions had a balanced scoring attack. Ethan Cotter led the way for the Lions with 16 points, followed by Jake Freiman with 15 and Mason Bean with 14.
Others scoring for Bakersfield were Sean Talley with 11, Trace Luna with 9, Morris Collins with 7, Hunter Lashley with 4 and Bo Bean with 2.
Earlier in the week, the Lions lost a tough one to Summersville 60-48.
Mason Bean led the Lions with 13 points, followed by Jake Freiman with 10, Ethan Cotter with 9, Hunter Lashley with 7, Trace Luna with 7 and Morris Collins with 2.
In girls’ action, coach and athletic director Doug Lansdown had a family emergency and was away from the team on Thursday and Friday.
“My assistant Mike Mahan did a great job in my absence and Coach Gardner and Mr. Byrd were also a lot of help. Myself and my family cannot thank the school and community enough for their thoughts and prayers during this time,” said Lansdown.
On Feb. 8, the Lady Lions finally got back on the court after not playing for 15 days and not having a full squad practice for 10 days due to illness and weather. The Lady Lions lost to Summersville 52-44.
Nautica Smith led in scoring for Bakersfield with 19 points. Jessie Keith and Callie Smith each had 7 points for the Lady Lions. Emmy Brashear and Shelby See each grabbed 8 rebounds in the effort.
Bakersfield is scheduled to host Koshkonong on Thursday, and will begin play in the district tournament at Cabool on Saturday against Plato at 10 a.m.
