Bakersfield softball team is 2-2 for the season
The Bakersfield Lady Lions softball team came into the week 2-2 for the season, taking wins against Cabool and Gainesville and losses against Thayer and Hartville since the season began in mid-March.
The Lady Lions headed to Plato Monday for a game that could potentially decide who the first-seed would be, come district time, said Head Coach Cainen McGinnis, who is new to the coaching position this year. He says the team is shaping up nicely.
“We are led by one senior, Alexis McGhee, who is a fantastic leader at second base for our very young team.
“Abby Guffey is a freshman who will earn the start behind the mound in most games this season. Abby has 23 strikeouts through four games.
“Our offense has been pretty spread out, as we have several young ladies that can step up and make plays for us at any moment such as sophomore Miley Edens, junior Callie Smith and freshman Elle Wells.
“Sophomore Paige Crites leads us with 12 hits and 4 runs. Sophomore Keely Stevens is our starting catcher and greatest athlete as she will have an impact throughout all areas of the game.
“We also expect big things from our juniors Hadley Stevens and Avery Farel who will play outfield for us,” McGinnis told the Times.
