Bitter cold again tonight

Up-to-the-minute weather:

An arctic blast of cold air sent temperatures into the single digits overnight in most of Ozark County, and it may be even colder tonight. The low temperature was 7 in Gainesville Wednesday night and may dip to that again, possibly even lower.

The cold snap comes on the heels of what was being called the "storm of the century" for much of the midwest, but was little more than a nuisance for Ozark County. Authorities report some roads are partially covered with snow and ice, but overall, the main highways are clear.

Highway 5 north and south out of Gainesville is clear, as is Highway 160 through Ozark County. West Highway 160, particularly from Theodosia to the Taney County has a few patchy spots.

Secondary highways are still partially covered with a dusting of snow and some ice.

The skiff of snow and sleet in Ozark County pales in comparison to our neighbors to the north and in Northwest Arkansas. Here are some of the more significant snowfalls totals around the region:

Camdenton 21"

Stover 20"

Joplin 19"

Appleton City 17"

Lamar 18"

Stockton 15"

ARKANSAS

Anderson 11"

Bella Vista 8"

Eureka Springs 8"

Rogers 7"

Springdale 7"

Fayetteville 5"

Ice clings to a barbed-wire fence east of Gainesville as the sun peeks from the clouds.
