Building Supply helpers

UPS driver Travis Allen shared this photo taken Monday, May 1, at Gainesville Building Supply where, he said, every time he went to drop off packages, more and more volunteers were helping with the clean-up effort. Owner Mike Roberts said if it weren’t for those volunteers and his employees, the store wouldn’t have been open and could not have helped those in the community who needed equipment and supplies for their own clean-up work. “We had some good help, great store associates and friendly people, and everybody helped with food and labor to get us up and running. We’re here to serve Ozark County and our customers and we want to help in any way we can.” He said while the store itself had about 18 inches of water, the store’s outbuildings suffered the most damage and were filled with 4 1/2 feet of water. Despite the damage, the store was open Monday morning, thanks to the efforts of the employees and other volunteers. Roberts said the Building Supply was one of the few places in the area with flood insurance but he has never had a flood claim before now. He estimates the store lost between $375,000 and $450,000 in damages and inventory.
