Carr wins post office weight-loss challenge

Now 39 pounds lighter than she was in mid-February, Dawn Carr is the winner of a weight-loss competition held this spring among Gainesville post office employees.
Others who joined the beneficial challenge included Beverly and Edna Uchtman, Lynell Lewis, Jack Jacobs, Brian Prock, and acting postmaster Kellie Stafford.
Jacobs came in second with 19.5 pounds lost, and Stafford was third with 17 pounds lost.
The participating employees put $5 in the "pot" on Feb. 18 and agreed to work at weight loss until Memorial Day. They weighed in each week on scales Stafford brought into the post office, and anyone who had gained or hadn't lost put more money into the pot. Some members dropped out as time passed, but by Memorial Day the pot had grown to $65, which Carr is donating to the Joplin Relief Fund at Century Bank of the Ozarks.
She said she lost the weight by cutting servings in half, cutting out bread and eating salad every day. She limited to herself to 1,500 to 1,700 calories a day and appreciated the support of her husband, Roy Carr, who does most of the cooking in their home, she said. She also added exercise to her routine, walking three miles three times a week - four to five miles once a week.
