Isabella man charged after running from cops in Ark.

Thad Ewry, 41, of Isabella, was taken into custody by the Baxter County (Ark.) Sheriff’s Department on Dec. 10, after leading law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit that began in Mountain Home and continued through several North Central Arkansas communities before ending just across the Bull Shoals Dam.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 6:45 a.m. last Wednesday morning when Deputy John Wood attempted to stop a pickup on Main Street in Mountain Home for a moving violation and for having no visible license plate. Instead of pulling over, the driver accelerated, heading west on U.S. Highway 62B and prompting deputies to declare a vehicle pursuit.

The driver, later identified as Ewry, continued fleeing at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour. The chase moved through Gassville and Cotter, across the White River into Marion County, and then into Flippin, where additional agencies joined the effort, including the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas State Police and Bull Shoals Police Department.

Ewry then reportedly sped north on Highway 178 toward Bull Shoals, weaving through multiple city streets before returning to the highway and continuing toward the Bull Shoals Dam. Authorities say the vehicle became increasingly disabled near the end of the pursuit but managed to cross the dam back into Baxter County, where deputies finally brought it to a stop.

Ewry reportedly resisted officers as they attempted to take him into custody. He was arrested and transported to the Baxter County Detention Center, where he was held until his release at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. Anticipated charges include felony fleeing by vehicle, driving while intoxicated (drugs), reckless driving, driving left of center, no vehicle license, no liability insurance and resisting arrest.

Additional charges may be filed in other jurisdictions due to the multi-county nature of the pursuit.

The case remains under investigation.
