Man given suspended sentence, probation after pleading guilty to domestic assault

Gainesville resident Corey Pool pleaded guilty to third-degree domestic assault before Circuit Judge Craig Carter during the Dec. 8 session of Ozark County Law Day. He was given a suspended sentence and placed on supervised probation for a term of 4 years. Online records indicate the victim in the case approved of the sentence before it was accepted by the court.

According to the probable cause statement filed in the case, prepared by Ozark County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Lane, the deputy was dispatched to a home on County Road 800 in Gainesville for a report of a domestic assault on May 28.

When Lane arrived on scene, he spoke with a woman, who said he’d hit and kicked her, as well as drug her across the floor of the home. Lane wrote in the report that the woman had swelling and redness around her left eye and a mark on the right side of her neck. The woman said Pool struck her, but no other serious injuries were noted.

Pool was asleep on the couch while Lane was speaking with the woman. The deputy woke him and smelled a strong odor of intoxicants, the report says.

“…he was belligerent,” Lane’s report says. “Mr. Pool was arrested, placed in restraints, [and] he became non-compliant to my command to place his hands behind his back and be escorted to the vehicle to be transported to the Ozark County Jail for booking.”
