Ocie standoff for arrest of federal fugitive ends with three in handcuffs

The suspect reportedly barricaded himself inside the home and threatened to shoot officers, but after negotiations with Ozark County Deputy Todd Beaver, the man peacefully surrendered himself and was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal’s office.

What began as a quiet Monday morning in Ocie erupted into a high-stakes law enforcement operation last week as officers descended on the residence of Shane Cook, who they suspected was harboring federal fugitive Joshua Cook. By the time the dust settled that afternoon, three men were in handcuffs, 11 firearms were seized and a potentially deadly standoff had been defused without a shot fired - thanks to calm negotiation and coordinated tactical response.
Joshua Cook, a federal fugitive wanted on drug charges out of Oklahoma since 2021, had been hiding out at the home for some time, investigators say. When law enforcement teams moved in on June 9, he barricaded himself inside and threatened to open fire on officers. But with the help of Ozark County Deputy Todd Beaver, acting as negotiator, Cook ultimately surrendered peacefully, ending the standoff before it turned violent.
Officers arrested Joshua Cook on the federal warrant. He also picked up two additional local charges including possession of a firearm by a felon and being a fugitive who resisted arrest. He was taken into custody by the Marshals.
Shane Cook, who lives at the home, was also arrested and charged with possession of firearms by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and hindering a prosecution. He was booked into the Ozark County Jail on those charges.
Another man who was at the home at the time, Eric McCrackin, was also arrested and faces one count of possession of methamphetamine.
In all, 11 firearms, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were confiscated from the home and taken as evidence.
