BASEBALL: Falcons take win
The Dora Falcons varsity baseball team took home a hard-fought win last Tuesday, Sept. 10, in a home game against Alton. The Falcons won 6-5. “This was a good win for our program. It shows the progress we have made in practice. The whole team showed up and competed from start to finish,” said Head Coach Stetson Neldon. “We are going to do our best to build on this and move forward.”
Brady Thompson, Treyton Rogers and Briggs Gunter opened the first inning of the game putting runs on the scoreboard, and all three scored again in the third inning, Neldon said. The team had big hits from Connar Lovan and Taber Walker that drove in runs. As far as pitching, Liam Gray held the team strong, pitching five and two-thirds innings and leaving the mound with a Falcons lead 6-5. Brady Thompson relieved him, pitching another inning and a third of scoreless baseball. On defense, the team was sharp, Neldon said, with minimal errors and a lot of teamwork that helped keep Alton’s score in check.
The Falcons were scheduled to play three away games to round out the week: 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Norwood, 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Koshkonong and 4:30 p.m. Friday at Bakersfield.
