Aaron Burton is the new elementary principal at Dora R-III School. Burton comes to the district with 20 years of experience in education.
His resume includes 5 years of experience in physical education and as an alternative director, coaching experience in softball, basketball and baseball, 15 years as a school administrator –10 of those as a PreK-6 principal and 5 years as an Alternative School Principal for grades 4-12. Burton holds bachelor’s degree in education, and both a master’s degree and specialist degree in administration.
Burton was born at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana and comes from a strong military background. The third of four boys, he grew up in a small town where he played baseball and basketball and worked on a cotton farm, gaining appreciation for hard work and rural life.
He played collegiate baseball while earning his bachelor’s degree in education and met his wife Delicia during that time. They’ve been married for 27 years and have four children: Jeremy, Noah, J.D. and Micha, along with two grandchildren, Jerron and Karter.
Burton’s wife brings her own educational expertise and is joining the Dora team as the junior high communication arts teacher. She holds a bachelor of science from Williams Baptist College and a master’s degree in administration from William Woods University.
In addition to his work in education, Mr. Burton has served as an associate pastor for the past 13 years. He said his experience in short-term mission work –traveling to Venezuela, the Domincan Republic, Africa and Thailand – have deepened his appreciation for the freedoms and opportunities available in the United States.
Outside of school, Burton is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys turkey hunting, deer hunting, fishing, golf and just about anything outside.
The school’s press release said that when Burton walked into the building, he felt right at home.
“The opportunity to call Dora my home and school is beyond exciting – a blessing!” he said. “The atmosphere, setting and culture are exactly what I grew up in, and I can’t wait to earn my spot with the students, teachers and community.”
