Fire destroys Chaney Monument building

An early-morning fire destroyed Chaney Monument's main building on Highway 160 in Gainesville Wednesday morning.

Gainesville fire chief Brian Morgan said he wasn't sure what caused the blaze that started around 1-1:30 in the morning, saying it could have been electrical.

Morgan said he has called the state fire marshal's office to investigate.

A broken city well pump slowed response time to the blaze, as fire officials called mutual aid to assist.

There were no injuries.
