Bulldogs roll through busy week, extend streak with four wins

The Gainesville Bulldogs put together a strong three-game stretch last week, picking up wins over Hartville, Conway and Strafford behind dominant pitching performances and a surge of timely hitting. The Bulldogs record now stands at 18-3 as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.

Gainesville opened the week Monday, April 20 with an 8-1 win over Hartville, fueled by a commanding outing on the mound from Dawson Hewett. Hewett worked six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four to earn the win. Kolby Anderson closed out the game, tossing one inning with two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs kept the momentum going April 21, defeating Conway 10-1. Grant Leeker led the charge on the mound, going five innings while allowing just one run on three hits and striking out seven. Aden Gaulding was sharp in relief, throwing two hitless innings and adding a pair of strikeouts to secure the victory.

Gainesville capped the week Thursday, April 23 with an 8-4 win over Strafford. Keegan Crouse earned the win after pitching four innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four. Brayden Miller came on in relief, pitching three innings and striking out three to help seal the Bulldogs’ third straight win.

Offensively, Gainesville’s lineup delivered throughout the week. Leeker led the way at the plate, going 6-for-10 with two doubles, a home run and two RBIs. Miller provided a big boost as well, finishing 5-for-9 with a double, two home runs and six RBIs.

Gaulding contributed consistently, going 5-for-10 with two RBIs and scoring three runs, while Avery Rodrigue added four hits in 10 at-bats, including a double, and drove in four runs.

“The boys are doing some really good things,” Coach Hobbs said. “I like where our heads are and the energy they have together.” 

Gainesville hosted Mansfield Tuesday, April 28. Details of that game were unavailable at presstime, They will head to Thayer to take on the Bobcats Thursday, April 30.
