Gainesville Bulldogs go 1-2 on the week

The Gainesville Bulldogs were 1-2 in boys’ basketball action this past week, losing close contests with Mansfield and Sparta, and winning on the road at Fordland.

On Feb. 8, the Bulldogs traveled to Fordland and defeated the Eagles 59-50 behind strong scoring from Bryce Hambelton who led the team with 24 points. Hambelton also grabbed 9 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Others scoring for Gainesville were Jake Leeker with 16, Landry Jenkins with 10, Carter Wise and Easton McGee with 3 each, Andrew Hambelton with 2 and Wyatt Alms with 1.

The Bulldogs’ JV squad also came away with a V, 42-37. Harmon Johns led Gainesville with 19 points, followed by Hunter Luna with 11, Jarett Hogan with 6, Garrett Taber with 4 and Karson Hubbard with 2.

The following night, Gainesville lost a close one against Sparta, 67-60.

Jake Leeker led Gainesville with 20 points, followed by Bryce Hambelton with 12 and Carter Wise with 9. Also scoring were Landry Jenkins with 5, Andrew Hambelton and Wyatt Alms with 4 each and Easton McGee and Camden Evans with 3 each.

Gainesville won the JV match, 43-40.

In that game, Harmon Johns again led the Bulldogs, this time with 14 points, followed by Garrett Taber with 11 points, Jarett Hogan with 8, Hunter Luna and Trey Pendergrass with 4 each and Karson Hubbard with 2.

On Feb. 11, the Bulldogs were on the road again and lost a ‘nail-biter’ at Mansfield, 48-47.

Easton McGee was hot, leading the Bulldogs with 16 points.

Others scoring for Gainesville were Jake Leeker and Wyatt Alms with 10 each, Landry Jenkins with 5, Bryce Hambelton with 4 and Carter Wise with 2.

The JV Bulldogs also lost to the host Mansfield Lions, 42-30.

Harmon Johns led the Gainesville offense with 14 points, followed by Jarett Hogan with 9, Hunter Luna with 5 and Garrett Taber with 1.

“I felt we competed well in each game, just came up short in the Sparta and Mansfield games,” said Gainesville coach Morris Jenkins. 

The Bulldogs are scheduled to travel to Conway on Feb. 17, with the district tournament beginning on Feb. 19.
