GHS Bulldogs chalk up Homecoming wins over Summersville Wildcats
The Gainesville Bulldogs scored big wins over Summersville in front of a huge Homecoming crowd in the GHS gym Friday, Dec. 20.
The varsity Bulldogs defeated the Wildcats 61-43. Juniors Grant Leeker and Dawson Hewett led the scoring with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Hunter Luna and Avery Rodrigue added 8 each, followed by Owen Donley with 5 and Brayden Frye with 4.
Dawson Hewett led in rebounds with 10, followed by Hunter Luna with 8, Brayden Frye with 7 and Grant Leeker with 6. Avery Rodrigue led in steals with 2.
“Overall, I felt like our guys gave a really good effort,” said GHS Head Coach Morris Jenkins. “We’re still having stretches where we’re inconsistent and not in sync. With great work ethic and attitude, we will see more consistency as we move forward.
“I would like to give a shoutout to our cheer team and student pep club,” he added. “They were very supportive.”
Gainesville’s JV also won their contest over Summersville, beating the junior Wildcats 43-34. Chase Luna led the scoring with 12 points, followed by Daigan Hawkins and Keaton Dabney with 8 each, Keagan Crouse with 6 and Macray Hambelton with 4.
The Bulldogs competed in the Cabool Holiday Tournament Dec. 26-30 where they were seeded in the number 12 spot. They faced a tough Eminence team, seeded fifth, in the first round on Thursday and fought a hard battle, but lost by just one point, 48-47.
Teams who competed in the Cabool Holiday Tournament, in order of seeding, are Norwood, Liberty, Pocahontas, Mammoth Springs, Eminence, Mansfield, Licking, Salem, Winona, Plato, Alton, Gainesville, Summersville, Houston, Dora and Cabool.
GHS Lady Bulldogs host Holiday Tournament
The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs hosted their 2nd Annual Gainesville Lady Bulldog Holiday Tournament Dec. 26-30. Teams participating in the tournament are Bakersfield, Gainesville, Mansfield, Bradleyville, Seymour and Cabool. Results from the tournament will be printed in the Jan. 8 edition of the Times.
