GHS Bulldogs fall to Seymour and Norwood, beat Dora
Last week, the Gainesville Bulldogs boys basketball team faced off against two very good teams – Seymour (16-5) and Norwood (20-2).
“In both games we competed well in the first half. At the beginning of third quarter, in each game, we had some good scoring opportunities where the shots didn’t fall, and our opponents took advantage, and their leads grew,” said GHS Head Coach Morris Jenkins. “Our guys are continuing to battle; we just need to be more consistent with execution on both ends of the floor.”
The Bulldogs traveled to Seymour Tuesday, Feb. 4, and lost to the Tigers 61-42. Owen Donley and Grant Leeker led the scoring with 17 and 15 points, respectively. Dawson Hewett added 6, and Hunter Luna and Brayden Frye chipped in 2 each. Leeker led in assists with 4. Hewett led in rebounds with 7, followed by Leeker with 6.
Gainesville’s JV also lost their contest with a final score of 46-29. Chase Luna led the scoring efforts with 11 points for the Bulldogs, followed by Owen Souder with 6 and Keaton Dabney with 5. Other players scoring for the JV were Keagan Crouse 3 and Haden Evans and Marvin Curtis with 2 each.
The Gainesville boys hit the road to face a very tough Norwood Pirates team on Friday, Feb. 7. The Pirates won, 75-38. Grant Leeker led the Bulldogs with 14 points, followed by Owen Donley with 10. Hunter Luna added 6, while Avery Rodrigue and Kolby Anderson chipped in 3 each and Brayden Frye added 2. Luna led the rebounding column with 7.
Norwood’s JV took the 55-26 win over the Gainesville junior varsity boys. Gainesville players scoring in the game were Keagan Crouse 8, Chase Luna 7, Marvin Curtis 4, Haden Evans 3, and Keaton Davey with 2.
The Bulldogs traveled across Ozark County to take on the Dora Falcons Monday, Feb.. 10, and won 69-49 to bring their record to 9-13 on the season so far.
Gainesville has some upcoming home games. They are against Fordland, Tuesday, Feb. 11; Mansfield, Friday, Feb. 14; and Hartville on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
