GHS Lady Bulldogs head to Class 2 District 4 tournament this week
The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs are set to open postseason play this week as they head to Mountain Grove for the Class 2 District 4 softball tournament, which begins Thursday, May 7.
Gainesville enters the tournament as the No. 5 seed with an 11-7 record and will face fourth-seeded Willow Springs (12-7) in first-round action at 11:30 a.m. The Lady Bulldogs will look to build momentum early against a familiar opponent in what is expected to be a competitive match-up.
Tournament play gets underway earlier in the day at 10 a.m., when No. 8 seed Liberty squares off against No. 9 seed Cabool. The winner of that contest will advance to face top-seeded Thayer at 1 p.m. Thayer enters district play with an impressive 15-4 record and will be favored to make a deep run.
Following that game, No. 2 seed Ava (16-6) will take on seventh-seeded Seymour (4-11). Ava enters the bracket as one of the top contenders and will aim to secure a spot in the semifinal round.
The final game of the opening day features host team Mountain Grove, the No. 3 seed, facing No. 6 seed Fordland.
Semifinal action is scheduled for Friday, May 11, with games beginning at 4 p.m. The tournament will conclude with the championship game at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 12.
