Lady Bulldogs add loss and big win to record

The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs brought their season to 3-3 after a huge 17-5 win over an undefeated Seymour Lady Tigers team Monday, April 7. Senior Katelyn Morgan got her first homerun in the game to contribute to the victory. JV also brought home a win.
The Lady Bulldogs had taken on another tough opponent when they hosted the Willow Springs Lady Bears Tuesday, April 1.
“We fought them a good game, said Gainesville Coach Joe Walrath. “Katelyn Morgan pitched a great game. Kelsie Hogan and Cami Strain made some nice catches in the outfield, and we had a 3-2 lead going into the top of the seventh inning.”
However, Willow capitalized on a couple of Gainesville errors, the coach said, and scored two runs in the top of the seventh to pull out a 4-3 victory.
“We have to learn to finish off games,” Walrath said. “Good teams take advantage of mistakes, and that’s what happened on this day. We fought them hard, and I’m proud of my girls for that. We will continue to work to get better.”
To finish off the week, the Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to compete in the Sparta Softball Classic but it was canceled due to heavy rains and flooding across the area.
The Lady Buldogs traveled to Alton (2-4) on Thursday, April 10 and to Dora on Friday, April 11. Games start at 4:30 p.m.
