The Gainesville Lady Bulldogs hit the road Tuesday, Dec. 2, and returned home with a convincing 64–41 victory over the Cabool Lady Bulldogs, using balanced scoring and strong defensive pressure in the second half to seal the win. The victory brings their season record to 2-1.
“We struggled to get stops and score in the first half. We only carried an eight-point lead into halftime,” Coach Nathan Houk said. “In the second half, we shot it much better and settled in on defense. We got the ball inside on offense and had multiple players make threes. It was encouraging to see us play stronger as the game progressed.”
Gainesville’s offense was firing from all angles, with eight players contributing to the final total. Macy Hambelton led the charge with 12 points, followed closely by Emma Donley with 11 and Mylie Frye with 10. Addie Alms added 9, Baylor Hewett 8, SadieWalker 6, Cami Strain 4 and Regan Blackburn 3.
Alms, Hewett, and Walker controlled the glass, each pulling down six rebounds to keep Gainesville in command of second-chance opportunities. Hambelton dished out a game-high seven assists, while Walker added six of her own and also paced the defense with four steals.
The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to face Ava on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Results of that contest were unavailable at press time.
Gainesville returns home Thursday, Dec. 11, when they host Hartville.
