Lance West named athletic director for Gainesville

Gainesville teacher and coach Lance West has been named the athletic director for Gainesville School District for the 2024-25 school year.  He’ll also be coaching high school and junior high girls basketball teams, junior high baseball, golf and will continue to serve as the summer league baseball and softball coordinator. 

“I am thankful for the opportunity the district has given me to serve as the athletic director. Gainesville School District is a great place to work. We have a great group of coaches that go above and beyond for our students, and I look forward to working with them and helping them anyway I can to help build their programs,” West told the Times.

West has been employed by the Gainesville School District since 2012. He has held the following positions during his 12 years with the district: ISS (in school suspension)/alternative school and learning lab coordinator/ physical education teacher (for the last 11 years), junior high boys basketball coach (2 years), junior high girls basketball coach (8 years), high school boys assistant basketball coach (1 year), high school girls assistant basketball coach (4 years), high school girls head basketball coach (5 years), junior high baseball coach (4 years), golf coach (11 years), elementary girls basketball coach (7 years), elementary girls basketball coach (3 years), summer baseball/softball league coordinator (1 year).
