Thankful for caring neighbors and hardworking firefighters
The volunteer firefighters were busy fighting other fires at the time ours was discovered.
Our friends and neighbors showed up with leaf blowers, rakes, etc… and dashed into our woods to make a fire break and stop the quickly spreading fire.
One family was on their way to go on a fishing outing, but instead, they went back home, got equipment and came back to help (new friends made).
Our property seemed to be under control after a few hours. The volunteers arrived as the fire spread to a dry grass field and was blazing almost out of control, and they quickly took over. They worked tirelessly into the night. It seemed to be under control, but the next day, it flared up again on our property, and again, our firefighters were at another fire. So volunteers from Pontiac and Wasola VFDs showed up to help.
And once again, the third day, with the winds blowing, some lingering embers flared up again.
The Theodosia, Gainesville, Pontiac and Wasola firefighters had to be exhausted from all the fires popping up in the area, but they showed up again.
Please everyone, stop carelessly throwing out cigarettes (as we believe that’s how ours may have started) and uncontrolled burning.
So, a big shout of thanks to all! When making donations, don’t forget about your fire departments.
The Garcia family,
Isabella
