Funds for library improvements

Ozark County Community Foundation board president Kerrie Zubrod, center, presents a $10,000 check from the Leroy and Ovia Marie McGinnis fund, which is invested with OCCF, to be used for the updating of the Gainesville High School and Junior High library. Combined with a recent $20,000 Coover Regional Grant from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, the award will allow the school to expand the student opportunities provided in the updated library. Students will be able to use the library / learning lab / media center to take online courses through Missouri’s LAUNCH program, which “gives seniors the opportunity to graduate from high school having already completed their freshman year of college,” said Gainesville Junior High principal Ericka Armstrong. Grant funds will also be used to create an appealing, comfortable area to motivate students to pursue reading. “The library is just going to be incredible,” said Armstrong. “This grant allows us to say to our kids: ‘You are worth this incredible space and opportunity.’” Pictured, from left: OCCF board member Jessica Blackburn, Gainesville High School principal Justin Gilmore, Zubrod, Gainesville superintendent Jeffrey Hyatt, Gainesville Junior High principal Armstrong.
