Doris Pinckney Baten, right, of Wasola recently received the National Weather Service 45-Year Dick Hagemeyer Service Award from Thomas Olsen, observation program leader of NWS Springfield. Joining in on the award presentation was her dog, Mr. Henry. In 1972, Doris took over observation duties from her mother-in-law, whose name was also Doris. NWS officials posted Doris’ photo on their Facebook page, saying, “Her longevity and dedication to the Cooperative Observer Program is a testament to her strong faith and her ties to the local community. The NWS appreciates all Doris does for the Cooperative Observer Program.”
