April 5, 2022 election candidate profiles, Gainesville City Council center ward

The following two candidates are running for one open seat on the Gainesville City Council in the center ward during the April 5 Ozark County General Municipal Election. The Times reached out to each candidate and asked for a photo and a 150-word profile to run in the newspaper prior to the election. For more information on polling locations or other local voting information, contact Ozark County Clerk Brian Wise at 417-679-3516.

J.C. Barber: I am J.C. Barber. I am running for City Alderman. I moved to Gainesville with my wife and daughter in 2013.  I taught music at Gainesville Elementary School then. The community has welcomed me and my family. I would like the opportunity to give back by serving as part of our city. I have loved living here and becoming a part of this town and its wonderful people. Thank you so much for your support.

Renee Schmucker: In 2020 I was appointed to the Gainesville City Council to fill a vacancy.  I feel that the council working together has accomplished a lot in the past 2 years, and I’m proud to be a part of it. We’ve upgraded the emergency warning system with new sirens. The maintenance department now has much-needed tools: a new tractor, mini excavator and our own sewer-jetter with camera.  A grant was obtained for the Lick Creek Stabilization Project, dealing with erosion from the 2017 floods. The water treatment plant build was finalized, our aging infrastructure is being upgraded with new waterlines and meters, sewer lines are being replaced and relined. Sidewalks have been and are being replaced. I try to be available to anyone in the city who has concerns, issues or ideas. It’s my hope that I can be elected in April to continue the work we are doing. I appreciate your support!
